Beautiful Bicycle: A Meticulous, (Mostly) American-Made Moots Vamoots 33

Beautiful Bicycle: A Meticulous, (Mostly) American-Made Moots Vamoots 33

Global trade got you down? Good news, as we’ve got just the bike to pick you up: this custom-built Moots Vamoots 33, a meticulous, (mostly) American made, beautiful bicycle.

No Trade Tensions–Just Titanium

For Contender’s latest custom bike, this cyclist was looking to achieve a uniquely American build for his dream machine. Starting with the frame, he went with a Moots Vamoots 33–designed and manufactured in the U.S. (Steamboat Springs, CO, to be specific), using American-sourced titanium, and hyper-locally named for the country road that runs close to Moots HQ. Designed to truly embody the meaning of an all-road bike, the Vamoots 33 features a carbon fork for vibration dampening, a 3D printed disc brake flat mount for precision alignment, and clearance for up to 38mm tires, making it ideal for mixed surface riding, from flowing tarmac to chunky fire roads.

Cockpit

On the front end, this cyclist chose ENVE, another American brand, based right here in Ogden, UT, to build out his cockpit, including ENVE SES AR handlebars, and ENVE bar tape. The stem is right in line with the frame--also Moots, also titanium.

Wheels & Tires

Continuing with the American-made theme and meticulous composition, the cyclist complemented the Moots frame with Chris King carbon wheels (ARD44 45D)--designed in Portland, OR, and manufactured with raw materials sourced from domestic mills. Rounding out the wheels (we couldn’t help ourselves), he opted for 700x36c Strada Bianca tires from Challenge–not American made, but definitively handmade in Italy, for the most discerning of cyclists.

Groupset & Saddle

Finally, this customer reached across the international aisle with his groupset and saddle selections. On the former, he chose a Shimano GRX Di2 drivetrain (2 x 12), Shimano GRX brakes, and Shimano GRX crankset and chainring. On the latter, he chose a German-made Ergon SR Allroad saddle.

Conclusion

Overall, we love this cyclist’s American-made vision, and his thoughtful, bespoke selection of providers and parts, top-to-bottom. In today’s complex and global bike market, you’d be hard-pressed to find a rig more meticulous–and more ‘born in the USA.’ In our view, even Springsteen would be proud.
