Tech Tip: How to Wax Your Chain
Want to make your drivetrain faster, cleaner, and more efficient? In this Tech Tip, Joseph walks through the process of waxing your chain with the Silca Chain Waxing System. Learn how chain waxing reduces friction, improves durability, and keeps your bike running smoothly.
What You Need:
- Silca Chain Waxing System
- Chain Wax – We used Silca Secret Chain Blend - Hot Melt Wax, but other bike-specific chain waxes, like Finish Line Halo Hot Wax, will work.
-
Chain Stripper
- Starting with a used chain? Use Silca Chain Stripper + Wax Prep to remove old lube and contaminants.
- Starting with a new chain? Use Silca StripChip to strip off the factory grease.
Not Required, But Nice to Have:
- Silca EnduranceChip – Extends the time between rewaxing by up to 2.5x (up to 750km) while maintaining performance on par with top wet lubricants.
- Silca SpeedChip – The fastest wax option, improving chain efficiency by up to 0.6% over Silca SecretBlend. Requires more frequent reapplication.
- SILCA Super Secret Chain Lube – Perfect for touch-ups between waxing sessions, keeping your chain smooth and efficient without the need for a full rewax.
